Travel to Kobe

There are the following 3 airports near Kobe. We recommend you to arrive at Kansai (KIX) if there is a flight from your airport to Kansai (KIX) directly. Otherwise, we recommend you to arrive at Osaka (ITM) via Narita (NRT) if there is a flight from your airport to Narita (NRT) directly. Moreover, there are (not so many) flights to Haneda (HND) or other airports in Japan from overseas, we recommend you to arrive at Kobe (UKB) or Osaka (ITM) if there is a flight from your airport to such airports in Japan directly.
Please note that Narita (NRT) is not close to Haneda (HND). We recommend you NOT to transit to Haneda (HND) from Narita (NRT) even if you arrive at Narita (NRT) and your airline recommends you this. However, this transit may be useful only if you would like to visit Tokyo before Kobe. In this case, you may use Shinkansen (bullet trains) to get Osaka or Kobe from Tokyo (or Kyoto).
- Kansai International Airport (IATA code: KIX):
It is the largest international airport in Kansai region (see the official website: Kansai International Airport and Wikipedia). The airport is about 75 minutes from Sannomiya (the center of Kobe City) by bus (1,950yen as of 2014 Apr.). The timetable is here. Another alternative (but not recommended) is train: it takes about 105 minutes (1,660yen as of 2014 Feb.) and you may use Train Route Finder. To get to the conference location directly, see also From Kansai International Airport page.
- Osaka Itami Domestic Airport (IATA code: ITM):
The largest domestic airport in Kansai region (see the official website: Osaka International Airport (Itami Airport) and Wikipedia). There are flights from Narita International Airport (IATA code: NRT) which is the largest international airport in Japan, and Haneda Airport (Tokyo International Airport (IATA code: HND)). The airport is about 40 minutes from Sannomiya by bus (1,020yen as of 2014 Feb.). The timetable is here. Another alternative is train: it takes about 55 minutes (560yen as of 2014 Feb.) and we recommend you to use Train Route Finder. If you want to get to Sannomiya station, please use "From: Osaka-Airport" and "To: Hankyu-Sannomiya" since otherwise you will not get correct answers if you use "Itami-Airport".
- Kobe Domestic Airport (IATA code: UKB):
A domestic airport close to Kobe City (see the official website: Kobe Airport Terminal and Wikipedia). There are domestic flights to this airport from Haneda Airport (Tokyo International Airport (IATA code: HND)). The airport is about 18 minutes from Sannomiya by monorail train (320yen). The timetable is here.
